There are 43 conservators and restorers employed in the Conservation Department, working in eight specialist studios, where documented conservation activities of various scope (complete and reconstruction conservation, partial and protective conservation) are carried out on objects from the museum’s collections that are diverse in every respect (type, time and place of origin, technological structure, method of execution). Tasks in the field of preventive conservation are carried out by the Museum Prevention Studio and identification studies of museum objects in the Technological-Conservation Research Studio.

In addition to preventive maintenance and direct museum activities, a lot of documentation is required – descriptions of the states of preservation of the objects and courier care during the loan of museum items for exhibitions. Working with exhibition designers and department curators, all workshops carry out work to enable safe installation of objects on exhibitions.

Conservators lead and participate in research and exhibition projects, also in cooperation with specialists outside the museum and in educational and popularization activities.
